Greenwood native Ben Martin shot a 2-under 70 to finish Friday tied for fourth in the second round of the Web.com Tour’s BMW Charity Classic. Martin played Round 2 at The Cliffs Valley in Travelers Rest and will return to Thornblade Club in Greer for the third and fourth rounds after making the cut.
Martin (-10) is four strokes behind leader Kristoffer Ventura (-14), who finished Round 2 at The Cliffs Valley with a 10-under 62.
Martin started Friday on the back nine and birdied on Nos. 12 and 13 before back-to-back bogeys, his first two of the tournament, on Nos. 15 and 16. To finish on the front nine, Martin birdied Nos. 1 and 7 and made par on every other hole.
Play was delayed Friday for about two hours because of rain. Martin, who started from No. 10 at 7 a.m., had played six holes before the delay and later finished the round. About half of the field, however, will resume Round 2 at 7:30 a.m. today after lightning suspended play.
The low 60 players, including ties, will be cut after Round 2.
Martin is set to play Round 3 today at Thornblade Club, but must wait for Round 2 to finish in the morning.
He finished the first round Thursday tied for first at 8 under.
Today’s forecast in Greer calls for thunderstorms and a 70% chance of rain throughout much of the morning.
