CAROLYN G. ALLEN

DUE WEST -- Carolyn Griffith Allen, a resident of Due West, SC, wife of Hillard H. Allen, died in her home on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016. She was born Nov. 28, 1935 in Covington, VA, to the late Dr. Murray W. Griffith and Willma Miller Griffith.

Carolyn graduated from Erskine College in Due West, SC, in 1957 and began her teaching career in Bartow, FL, before returning to Erskine to become the Field Representative for the Admissions Office of the College.

Later, she married Hillard H. Allen of Bartow, FL, and taught school in Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. Carolyn was an active member of the Cocoa Beach United Methodist Church of Cocoa Beach, FL, and the Due West Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Due West, SC. She was involved in many aspects of church life, as well as activities in the community and the college. Her life was centered on faith, love, kindness and compassion for others.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Hillard H. Allen of the home; son, William Murray Allen and his wife, Jennie of Orlando, FL; daughter, Laura Allen Wittig and her husband, COL Robert Wittig of Ft. Bragg, NC; five grandchildren, Rachel and Joshua Wittig, Jacob Norman, Natalie and Caidin Allen; two sisters, Jo Ann Griffith of Due West, SC, Jane Griffith Kennedy and her husband, Mark of Flat Rock, NC; brother, Dr. M. Dale Griffith and his wife, Janet of Lenoir, NC; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A service to Celebrate Carolyn's Life will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 in the Due West ARP Church, with the Rev. Calvin Draffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Due West ARP Church cemetery. A reception will be held in the Due West ARP Church immediately following the services.
