Emerald High School has named Jamie Blount as its interim principal. She will assume the role in December.
Blount’s currently in her third year as assistant principal at Emerald. Blount, a former English teacher, worked five years at Southside High School and seven years at Mauldin High School in Greenville before joining Greenwood County School District 50.
“I look forward to making positive contributions that will build on the rich tradition the school has in academics, athletics, and the arts,” Blount said in a released statement. “I will strive to continue making a difference in the lives of our students with the help of our staff and parents as we continue to provide them with the building blocks to become college and career ready.”
Blount received her bachelor’s in Secondary Education/English from the University of South Carolina Upstate, and she received her master’s in English from Winthrop University.
Social Studies Academic Coach Karen Teague will fill in for Blount as interim assistant vice principal. She is currently serving as interim assistant director at Genesis Education Center. Damian Coleman, who has been serving as interim principal of Emerald, will return to his role as director and relieve Teague of the position.
“Ms. Blount will do a tremendous job as interim principal at Emerald,” Superintendent Steve Glenn said in a release. “She has been effective at building relationships with Emerald’s community and will have a positive impact on the faculty, staff, students and parents. She has been successful in our district and I fully anticipate this to continue.”
