Abbeville City Manager Blake Stone received a favorable performance review from city council members during a closed-door discussion Tuesday night, said Mayor Delano Freeman.

Stone, an Abbeville native, was first named interim city manager in 2017. His position was made permanent that August.

Earlier in the meeting, Freeman dedicated a moment of silence to Shirley Jean Jones, Steven Tinch and Johntavier Moss, who were killed in a shooting at an Abbeville apartment last month, and opened the floor to any suggestions about how to curb violence in the community.

“Right now we’re trying to work with the apartment complexes to figure out different solutions,” Freeman said. “I wouldn’t say that (violence) is isolated just to an apartment complex, it could happen anywhere. ... When you have a good concentration of people, you want to make sure we take every measure to make it safe.”
