The Links at Stoney Point hosted the first Patriot Golf Tournament June 1. This fundraiser was in conjunction with the PGA of America and the Folds of Honor. Monies raised will go to the spouses whose husbands and wives were killed while serving on active duty. The tournament raised $6,064.
There were 19 teams of golfers that participated. The winner was the Army team, with a net aggregate score of 475. The Marines and Air Force tied for second with a score of 480, fourth was the Coast Guard with a score of 482 and the Navy finished fifth with a score of 483. Difference between first and last place was only 8 strokes.
Members of the winning Army team were: March Hurley, Damian Hall, Keith Bishop, Glenn Witt, Lee VanVoris, Mike Coleman, Terry Greenfield, Art Wallace, Tommy Pendley, Joey Mitchell, Justin Smith, Jason Mitchell, Euel Boland, Frank Setzler, Weldon Humphrey, Roger Skinner, Bobby Medlock, Tony Booth, Randy Armstrong, Frank Miller, Kevin Parke, Dennis Clark, Steve Tinney, David Hill, Col. John Simpson, Tracy Carter, Bill Lesesne, Robin Ashley, Ken Fraser, Fernado, Nate Jillson, Ron Parker, Peter Bjerke, Wayne Perrin, Steve Henderson, David Perrin, Kyle Davis, Roy Wilbanks, Neal Longmire, and Billy Camp.
The honorary starter was Stoney Point Ranger, Tommy Creswell, recent recipient of the blanket of valor.

A special thanks to US Marine and Stoney Point member Ron Parker who matched the donation jar funds, Neal Longmire who came up with the idea of having a tournament to recognize and honor veterans, Patrick Wilson, Head Pro at Stoney Point for all of the hard work that he did to make this tournament such a great success, Keith Bishop, Golf Superintendent for having the golf course in such great condition and to Jim and Denise Medford for allowing us to have the tournament at the Links at Stoney Point, the rangers at Stoney Point for all of the behind the scenes that they do to make all tournaments run smoothly and to the entire staff at Stoney Point for all of their hard work and dedication they do on a daily basis. Everyone’s hard work helps makes the Links at Stoney Point such a premier golf course. Next year event will be May 31. Hope everyone can play and help us raise funds for this worthy cause.
