Greenwood High senior Emily Venable signed Wednesday as the early signing period opened to play beach volleyball at Tusculum University in Greeneville, Tennessee.
“From the beginning, I felt Tusculum was the place I wanted to continue my volleyball career,” Venable said. “Coach (Ashton) Hippenstiel is a great coach and makes the team members feel like family. Also, I love how the professors are supportive of the student-athletes. I just felt at home at Tusculum. I can’t wait to be on campus as a student.”
Venable plans to major in biology.
Venable was an All-Region volleyball selection at Greenwood this fall, her third year starting for the Eagles. She played club beach volleyball for Upward Stars Upstate the past two years.
“Playing multiple sports made my transition to the sand much easier,” Venable said. “The skills required to play beach volleyball are much different than the skills required for indoor.”
Venable started playing volleyball in middle school and decided to focus on volleyball over softball and basketball her sophomore year at Greenwood.
Tusculum recently added a women’s beack volleyball program and the Pioneers’ first season will be spring 2019. The Pioneers compete in the Division II South Atlantic Conference.
