Rev. John Sproles Tucker

Rev. John Sproles Tucker, 77, resident of 110 Tucker Road, husband of Jan Whitman Tucker, passed away Monday, September 16, 2019, at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born April 2, 1942, in Greenwood, he was a son of the late John S. and Ludie Long Tucker. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and the Emory University Theological Seminary and attended Lander University, the University of South Carolina-Aiken and Piedmont Technical College. He served as a Methodist Pastor in the SC United Methodist Conference for over 19 years and worked with Monsanto for a total of 18 years.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Rev. Tucker was twice married, first to the late, Vicky Henderson Tucker.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a son, Tony (Trish) Tucker of Laurens, five daughters, Cindy (Tim) Hawks of High Point, NC, Sheila (David) Tripp of Greenwood, Georgia (Rev. Kevin) Hembree of Greenwood, Misty (Glenn) Butler of Greenwood and Candie Ward of Anderson; a sister, Alta Cannon of Kirksey; nineteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Joe Tucker.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Kevin Hembree and Rev. Randy Ouzts officiating. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John Jay Cannon, Andy Tucker, Cody Cannon, Tommy Calliham, Bryan Calliham and J.B. Calliham.

Honorary escort will be men of Calvary Baptist Church.

The family is at the home on Tucker Road and will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday.
