Rayford “Ray” Kidd, 86, of 226 Marshall Circle, husband of Frances Robinson Kidd, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Albert M. and Mittie Waters Kidd. Mr. Kidd served in the US Army, retiring after 20 years and served in the South Carolina National Guard 122nd Engineer Battalion in McCormick, SC. He also retired from Greenwood Mills and Lander University and was a member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of 67 years are his children, Renae K. Smith (Stanley) of Lexington and Sandra “Sandy” K. Gosnell (Larry) of Chappells; brother, Ronnie Kidd (Linda) of McCormick; three grandchildren, Stephanie Derr, Holly Love (Justin), both of Lexington, and Ross Doolittle of Greenwood; and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Hannah, and Rossie Love, Morgan Derr, all of Lexington, Andrew Craven, Bradley and Bailey Weaghington, all of Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lib Compton, Faye Smith, and Nancy Youngblood; a brother, A.M. Kidd; and two grandchildren, Daniel Ray and April Lynn Doolittle.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bryant Sims and Dr. Cliff Vicars officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ross Doolittle, Jackson Love, Jimmy Still, Bruce Robinson, Tommy Robinson, Reid Compton, Thomas Cowan, and Richard Boiter.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 — 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
