Carroll Hubert Blackwell
Carroll H. Blackwell, 90, resident of Highway 246 in Coronaca, husband of Evelyn Childress Blackwell, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Spartanburg, April 18, 1929, he was a son of the late Clinton Dupre and Irene Jones Blackwell. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in Europe. He was a former building contractor and later retired from Monsanto after 23 years with the company.
Carroll was a member and former Deacon of Coronaca Baptist Church. He was a member and Past Master and Treasurer of the Coronaca Masonic Lodge #368, which has now merged with Eureka Masonic Lodge #47, with which he was currently a member. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a son, Neil Blackwell and wife Donna of Anderson; a sister, Catherine Bowick of Greenwood; and a granddaughter, Savannah Blackwell Campbell and husband Will of Greenwood; two great-grandchildren, Wells and Lainey Campbell; two step-grandsons, Eric and Trevor Carman.
He was predeceased by a son, Carroll Steven Blackwell, three brothers, Homer, Dupre and twin brother Harold Blackwell and two sisters, Marcelle Grindle and Hazel Nelson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Todd Polatty officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites and military honors will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Davis, Chesley Blackwell, Britt Blackwell, Andrew Davis, Alex Davis, Eric Carmam and Trevor Carman.
Honorary escorts will be Deacons of the church.
The family will be at the home in Coronaca and will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
