BEULAH, N.D. -- Martha Rosalind Moody, 89, Beulah, North Dakota, passed away in hospice care, Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Knife River Care Center, Beulah. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Lower Long Cane ARP Church, Troy, South Carolina. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Martha was born October 28, 1927, at Troy, South Carolina, to James and Margaret (Kennedy) Bradley. For the first twelve years of her life “Sis” as her father called her, lived at Eden Hall, which shaped the remainder of her life.

Sis graduated from Greenville High School in 1944 at the height of WWII, when all of her male classmates were heading off to war. She entered Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina, and graduated in 1948 with a degree in Bible. Her intentions were to teach high school bible classes. The change in law, not allowing religion to be taught in school forced her to teach in the elementary grades.

During her time at Erskine, she met and fell in love with Robert R. (Bob) Moody, Jr., and when he graduated in 1949, they married in August at Long Cane Presbyterian Church, and moved to Bartow, Florida, where Bob took a job with Swift & Co. The Korean conflict brought Bob into the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably until 1954. During the USMC years, their only child Robin was born.

The following years brought constant travel, as construction caused the family to move every two years with the Tennessee Valley Authority. Sis taught school at every new location. Later years saw more travel and new living locations, including Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Sis traveled extensively during this time, visiting every country in Europe. Parts of Asia, including Russia and China, and twice taking a ‘round the world trip’, stopping at many exotic locations.

The retirement years were spent in Wheatland, Wyoming, and Beulah, close to her family. Her final years were troubled with the on-set of Alzheimer’s and a slow decline in her mental health. Sis was the most devout Presbyterian and a keen scholar of the Bible. She lived her life as a kind, caring Christian of the utmost faith.

Sis is survived by one son, Robin (Heidi) Moody, Beulah; two grandchildren, Megan (Ryan) Nordstrom and Rosalyn Moody; two great-grandchildren, Aubree and Wes Nordstrom, Clarksville, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Ruth (Pete) Griffith, Charlotte, North Carolina; nieces and nephews, Jim Miller, Bill Miller, Brenda Trivette, John K. Bradley, Warren Bradley, Marian Hines, David Moody, Bill Griffith and Rene Griffith.

Sis was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bob Moody; her parents; brother, John Bradley and his wife, Agnes; sister, Leila and her husband, Clarke Miller; and brother-in-law JC Moody and his wife, Ann and their son, Carson.
