Melissa Dawn Covan, 41, of 11871 Highway 25 Business, Ware Shoals was arrested Thursday and charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a stolen pistol, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of marijuana and expired tag.
A Ware Shoals police officer saw a vehicle Wednesday night parked at the Stop-A-Minit and noticed it had an expired tag decal, according to a report. While the officer spoke with the woman driving the vehicle, another officer smelled marijuana in the car, the report said.
The woman told officers she didn’t smoke weed, but the man she drove to the store did. She gave officers permission to search the car while she spoke to the man on the phone, asking him to come back since officers were searching the car.
The man didn’t return. Inside the car, officers found 2.69 grams of a substance that tested positive for meth, what appeared to be marijuana and a revolver that had been reported stolen out of Greenville, the report said. The woman told officers it had been a long time since she bought the gun from someone else.
