McCormick Correctional Institution’s postal center director was arrested Tuesday following allegations she gave contraband to inmates, according to a news release from the state Department of Corrections.
Brenda L. Wideman, 59, of McCormick was arrested and charged with furnishing contraband to inmates at the prison. She was fired following her arrest, the release said.
A warrant said that on July 8 Wideman gave or tried to give an inmate contraband, clothing and food items.
“Wideman admitted to having knowledge of SCDC inmates having several packages of tobacco and marijuana being mailed to McCormick Correctional Institution and failed to report the criminal activity,” an affidavit said. “Wideman received monetary compensation from SCDC inmates for her cooperation in the criminal activity.”
A booking photo of Wideman was not immediately available.
