An 8-year-old boy told police that a man offered him $5 to touch his privates in a Walmart bathroom, then grabbed him from behind with both arms and touched his rear before letting him go, according to a police report.
But the man told police he saw a small child in the bathroom and gave him a “fist bump.”
Donald Allen Morrison, 51, of 72 Sable Lane, Trenton was arrested Friday and charged with kidnapping, third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and criminal solicitation of a minor.
Morrison is listed on the Greenwood County sex offender registry for a 1993 conviction of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
Greenwood police were called Friday to the Walmart at 300 Bypass 25 NE, where dispatchers said there had been an attempted child abduction, the report said. Officers met up with a woman who told officers her 8-year-old son went into the bathroom, and when he came out he said a man in there had grabbed him.
The boy told officers he went to the bathroom and as he was finishing a man asked him to “touch his private parts,” but he told the man no. The man then asked to touch the boy and offered him $5 to do it, the report said, and the boy again said no.
As the boy was washing his hands, the man came from behind and grabbed him, wrapping both arms around the boy and holding him in place, the report said. The man asked again to touch the boy, and the report said as the boy told him no the man touched the boy’s “bottom.” The man let the boy go once the boy said he would tell his mother.
Loss prevention officers reviewed security recordings and saw the man entering the bathroom, then leaving it and exiting through the southern exit and driving away in a gray Buick sedan. Officers were able to get a description of the man and his vehicle, and officers found a matching vehicle on Bypass 72, the report said.
While speaking with the driver, he admitted he went to the bathroom at the Walmart, “where he saw a small child and he gave him a ‘fist bump,’” the report said. The man was wearing the same clothes officers saw in the security video.
In his car, officers found a baton under the driver’s seat, along with a machete and two bags of trash in the trunk, the report said.
The bottom of the trunk’s floor “appeared to be intentionally lined with additional carpet, towels and a padded, metallic sun screen, which appeared to possibly be placed as bedding or a place for someone to lie,” the report said.
