A teen was arrested following an accidental shooting Thursday night that sent a relative of his to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to police.

Andrew Shemar Lomax, 18, of 306 Byrd St., Greenwood was arrested just after midnight Friday and charged with aggravated breach of peace.

Police received a call of a person shot at about 9 p.m. at 306 Byrd St., off Seaboard Avenue, said Greenwood Police Department Capt. Travis Anderson. Officers were there within two minutes and found a teen inside the house, lying on the floor with a single gunshot wound to his chest.

Officers gave the teen what aid they could, finding what appeared to be the bullet’s exit wound near the center of his back, according to a report. When firefighters and EMS staff arrived, he was taken to Self Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

Maj. Jeff Crisp said Friday it appeared as if two relatives were in the bedroom playing with a gun when the gun accidentally fired.

The teen who was shot was still in the hospital Friday, but had shown signs of improvement.

Crisp said Lomax was released from jail on a personal recognizance bond Friday afternoon.
