New Walmart

A Greenwood man is facing charges after reports of an attempted child abduction at the Walmart at 300 Bypass 25 NE, according to Greenwood police.

Donald Allen Morrison, 51, of 72 Sable Lane, Trenton was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to Greenwood County jail staff. Morrison is scheduled to face a bond hearing in the morning.

Morrison is listed on the Greenwood County sex offender registry for a 1993 conviction of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Officers received a call Friday afternoon that a man had had some kind of interaction with a child in a bathroom at the Walmart, said Greenwood Police Department Public Information Officer Jonathan Link.

The child came out and told his parents about it, and they were able to describe the man and his vehicle to officers.

The child wasn’t harmed and is safely with parents now, and within an hour police located the suspect and arrested him, Link said.

Investigators were still at work determining the details of what happened, and Link said once they had finished he would be able to release the man’s identity and further information.
