A man is now facing a murder count in connection with a fatal stabbing in Calhoun Falls, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.
SLED charged 26-year-old Robert Kenneth Martin on Tuesday with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was charged Saturday with second-degree domestic violence in connection with the same disturbance.
The Calhoun Falls man killed 29-year-old Jessica Ekholm “by cutting her neck with a knife,” according to one of the warrants.
Authorities said a man and woman were fighting Friday night and Ekholm intervened, attacking the man with a pocket knife before he fatally stabbed her.
The fight happened in front of two children, ages 1 and 2, an affidavit said.
SLED was called in at the request of the Calhoun Falls Police Department. Martin was booked at the Abbeville County Detention Center.
The case will be prosecuted by the 8th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
