A shot to the chest sent one man to the hospital Thursday night, and soon after police had someone in custody.

Police received the call of a person shot at about 9 p.m. at 306 Byrd St., off of Seaboard Avenue, said Greenwood Police Department Capt. Travis Anderson. Officers were on scene within two minutes and found a man inside the house with a single gunshot wound to his chest.

The man was responsive when EMS staff took him to an area hospital, Anderson said. There was no immediate threat to anyone else, he said, because the shooting was isolated to the residence and officers had someone in custody in connection with the shooting.

"I'm not sure at this time if it was even intentional," Anderson said at about 9:45 p.m. "But at this point, it's very, very early in the investigation."

A K-9 unit arrived on scene at about that time, and Anderson said the dog was helping officers search for evidence.
