A 16-year-old is facing charges after an investigation into the beating death of his brother, according to a news release sent Monday from the State Law Enforcement Division.

Andrew Garrett Nixon, 16, of Clarks Hill was charged as an adult with murder -- a felony which carries a penalty upon conviction of death or a minimum of 30 years to life in prison, the release said.

A warrant for Nixon's arrest signed Friday said he hit his brother -- Mathew Van Adams -- multiple times on the head and body with an aluminum bat at their Goose Road residence in Clarks Hill. A woman called 911 Wednesday night, and when a McCormick County deputy arrived they found him with blood on his clothes, according to a typed statement from SLED Special Agent James Busbee.

In a recorded interview with a deputy, Nixon admitted to beating his brother to death with a bat, the statement said.

Adams was identified Thursday by McCormick County Coroner Faye Puckett.

A booking photo for Nixon was not immediately available.
