Members of the LGBTQ community and public across the Coast gathered in Biloxi for a celebration of community this weekend. The Gulf Coast Equality Festival’s third annual Equality Fest was put on with support from Harrah’s Gulf Coast, Scarlet Pearl Casino and Resort, and the ‘Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative.” Festival attendees mingled with over 90 vendors and listened to live music from Unfazed and the Kelsey Moran Band and the festival was highlight by an afternoon drag super show. The theme for this year’s festival was ‘unity.’ Gulf Coast Equality Council President Kara Cooley said, “It’s just to show that we’re all equal and we all want the same thing. We all just want to be treated as a human being. We’re not very different. We’re all kind of the same, especially on the inside.” The Gulf Coast Equality Council has plans to build a community center for LGBTQ youth on the Coast in the future.
