Over in Gulfport, residents found a fun way to raise awareness for breast cancer and honor survivors. The third-annual ‘Pink Dress Run’ kicked off at Chandeleur Island Brewing Company and took over 14th Street as a mile-long event. Men and women put on their best pink dresses and accessories to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Event Organizer John Carter says that support for the run continues to grow year after year. ‘Pink Dress Run’ Organizer John Carter said, “The first year, I think we did 20-something runners. Last year, we did upwards of about a hundred and we had 120 that were preregistered and then we have about another hundred so far that have registered.” After the race, runners competed against each other in a costume contest and cornhole tournament.
