Hundreds of walkers took over the Gulfport Sportsplex on Saturday for a good cause. The Gulf Coast Down Syndrome Society’s annual Buddy Walk featured a mile long fun walk for family and friends to recognize those they know with Down syndrome. Attendees also enjoyed live music, fun games, and silent auction in a tailgate like setting. Holly Fedele with the Gulf Coast Down Syndrome Society says the walk helps to raise awareness about Down syndrome in the community. “Sometimes people have, you know, misconceptions about what Down syndrome is and they’re afraid of people with Down syndrome. So, coming out and celebrating with us makes for a really good feeling amongst the community.” All proceeds raised during the Buddy Walk help the Gulf Coast Down Syndrome Society fund scholarships and put on events each year.
