Two people died early Friday morning in Laurens County after the vehicle they were in ran off a highway exit ramp and struck a tree, according to officials.
The single-vehicle wreck happened at about 1 a.m. Friday on a ramp of I-385 at the 19-mile marker, said trooper Gary Miller with the state Highway Patrol.
Two people were in a vehicle that was exiting Highway 14 and entering I-385 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, Miller said. The vehicle went off the exit ramp, down an embankment and struck a tree, killing both occupants.
Laurens County Chief Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek said she and her staff were still working to notify the relatives of the two people who died and could not release their identities.
