Two people are dead and another was hospitalized after a truck overturned in McCormick County early Thursday morning, according to officials.
Three people were in a 2017 Toyota Tacoma headed West on Serpentine Drive, said Trooper First Class Tyler Tidwell with the state Highway Patrol. At 3:24 a.m., as the truck neared the intersection with Mabe Road, it went off the right side of the road, hit several trees and overturned.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, and one passenger who was not wearing one died in the wreck, Tidwell said. The other passenger, a 25-year-old Hilton Head resident, was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Tidwell noted all three people were trapped in the vehicle.
McCormick County Coroner Faye Puckett said her office was still working to contact next of kin for the two people who died before she could release their identities.
