Thunderstorms downed trees and blocked roadways Monday evening as many people were headed home from work.
The National Weather Service predicted scattered thunderstorms throughout the area, bringing with them cloud-to-ground lightning, brief heavy downpours and locally gusty winds. When the storms struck Greenwood, they downed trees on Ridge, Old Abbeville and Calhoun roads, said Greenwood County Emergency Management Coordinator George McKinney.
McKinney also noted downed trees along Woodlawn Road and Cothran Avenue and said at one point Old Woodlawn Road was blocked at both ends. A downed limb from a large tree on Grace Street blocked a driveway near First Baptist Church.
Duke Energy’s outage map listed 18 active outages at about 7:45 p.m. Monday, with about 150 customers without power.
