A Ware Shoals man died in a single-car wreck in Spartanburg County that officials are saying was likely the result of a shooting involving moving vehicles.
Jerferron Raphael Talbert, 29, of West Main Street, Ware Shoals died at the scene of the wreck at 4:39 a.m. Saturday, said Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger. The wreck happened on I-26 eastbound at mile marker 24, and the coroner’s office and Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the wreck.
Talbert was not wearing a seat belt during the wreck.
WYFF-4 reported that sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Kevin Bobo said the wreck was likely the result of a retaliatory shooting involving moving vehicles. The report said investigators were looking into a connection between the wreck and a shooting earlier at Club Rehab on Kensington Drive in Spartanburg.
The earlier shooting happened at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday and a man was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. WYFF-4 reported that Bobo said an investigation showed the situation stemmed from a dispute between rival gang members and that most people involved aren’t from Spartanburg.
Attempts to reach Bobo for comment were unsuccessful.
