Car fire 01

Greenwood firefighters doused this burning car early Wednesday morning on Hampton Street.

A man’s car caught fire early Wednesday morning after the vehicle got stuck on a retaining wall, according to Greenwood firefighters.

The Greenwood Fire Department responded at about 3:40 a.m. Wednesday to a car fire at 213 Hampton St., where a report said firefighters found the car engulfed in flames. The four fire personnel on the scene were able to extinguish the blaze quickly but weren’t able to determine the cause through the heavy fire damage to the car’s inside and undercarriage.

The driver, a 63-year-old Greenwood man, told firefighters he was driving the car when it just stopped working. Firefighters stayed on scene until the man’s car was removed by a wrecker.
