A Greenwood County deputy and another driver were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after their vehicles collided along South Main Street.

Investigator Ronny Powell was in a county-owned SUV Friday when it collided with another SUV with a single occupant near the intersection of South Main Street and Academy Avenue, said Maj. Cody Bishop with the sheriff’s office. Bishop said Powell was experiencing back pain, but his injuries didn’t seem major, and that the driver of the other SUV was awake and responsive when EMS staff checked on him.

Both men were taken to the hospital to be checked on. The state Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
