One person is dead following a single-vehicle wreck Friday morning in Saluda County.
The driver of a 1975 Chevrolet pickup truck died in a wreck that ended with the truck engulfed in flames, said Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell with the state Highway Patrol. Officials with the Saluda County Coroner’s Office said the driver will have to be identified during an autopsy scheduled for Monday.
The wreck happened at 6:48 a.m. Friday on S.C. Highway 23, near Peach Orchard Street, Tidwell said. The driver was heading north on Highway 23 when, about 1.3 miles north of Monetta, the truck went off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
After hitting the tree, Tidwell said the truck caught fire. The driver was the only occupant and he was not wearing a seat belt.
