A woman has died after a domestic dispute in Calhoun Falls, according to a release from the Abbeville County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office was contacted at 11:45 p.m. Friday after two people received knife wounds during an argument at 105 Edgewood Circle, the release said.

An argument between a husband and wife escalated when a third person at the scene, 29-year-old Jessica Ekholm, stabbed the man with a pocket knife, according to Abbeville County Deputy Coroner Sam Ferguson. The man retaliated with another knife, injuring Ekholm, Ferguson said.

Ekholm died at the scene. The man was flown by helicopter to AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson. He was treated and released and is being questioned by agents with State Law Enforcement Division, which is leading the investigation.

Calhoun Falls Lt. Detective Treaco Hoover said the man “came in willingly.”

“The public has nothing to worry about,” Hoover said. “I think this is going to be an isolated incident.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. The Abbeville County Coroner’s Office and the Calhoun Falls Police Department are assisting SLED with the investigation.
