Officials identified the Simpsonville man who died Thursday night while riding his bicycle in Laurens County, according to a news release sent Thursday afternoon from the Laurens County Coroner’s Office.
Richard Bouchard, 67, of Cassidy Court, Simpsonville was struck by a vehicle Thursday while riding his bike on S.C. Highway 101 North, the release, sent by Laurens County Chief Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek said. Bouchard died at the scene.
He was headed south along S.C. 101 when he was struck from behind by a 2015 Nissan being driven by a 16-year-old, said trooper Joe Hovis with the state Highway Patrol. Bouchard was wearing a helmet and the teen was wearing a seat belt, Hovis said.
The wreck happened at 7:25 p.m. about 1.4 miles north of Gray Court.
While the teen was not injured, the Bouchard died of his injuries at the scene. The teen was charged with driving too fast for conditions, Hovis said.
