Central Packaging and Crating Inc. will expand its Greenwood County operations, adding 37 jobs as part of a $6 million investment.

A Minneapolis-based packaging supplier is expanding its Greenwood County operations, spending $6 million and adding 37 jobs, officials announced Tuesday morning in a news release.

Central Packaging and Crating Inc., located at 101 Joe Bernat Drive, is upgrading an adjacent facility for the installation of a new pinewood cut-up line, broadening its production of pine pallets. The company has operated in Greenwood since 1998.

“Central Packaging and Crating’s decision to expand here is another positive sign that Greenwood County’s efforts to retain quality companies are paying dividends,” County Councilwoman Edith Childs said in a statement. “We remain committed to making Greenwood County and South Carolina a better place to do business.”

Company President Kevin Neuman praised the long relationship between it and Greenwood County, saying its 20-year presence in the region made a broader footprint here feasible.

Gov. Henry McMaster also welcomed the news.

“We’re proud of our existing industries in South Carolina, and Central Packaging and Crating is a perfect example of Team South Carolina’s strength. Congratulations to Greenwood County on this wonderful announcement, and we look forward to what the future has in store for this great company,” he said.

Hiring for the new positions is expected to begin in the spring of 2019, and interested applicants can apply in person at that time. For information on Central Packaging and Crating Inc., contact Neuman at central@gogenesis.com.
