Uchi E on Waller Avenue in Uptown Greenwood recently closed its doors.

An Uptown Greenwood restaurant shuffle is seeing one popular eatery closing its doors while another is readying to move into the Main Street arcades complex.

Uchi E, a fusion Asian restaurant on Waller Avenue, shuttered in mid-January, Uptown Manager Lara Hudson said.

Meanwhile, Greenwood resident Kevin Franklin is planning to open his Southern Soul on Main next month at the former site of Caffe 312.

“It’s going to be a great atmosphere for families. We’re very excited about this venture,” Franklin said.

Caffe 312 closed in November. Franklin said he was searching for venues for more than a year when he noticed the vacancy.

“We’ve been looking at a location for a couple of years now and I just happened to drive through the Uptown area and happened to see that spot dark with the rest lit up,” he said.

Franklin said he plans on opening on a five-day-a-week schedule but expand hours depending on traffic.

Hudson said she’s excited to have a new business slotted into Caffe 312’s old home and hopes prospects emerge for the Waller Avenue location as well.

“I don’t know of any interest off hand, but of course we’d love to have another restaurant come in there,” she said. “We filled that spot (Caffe 312) pretty quickly, and we hope to do that with any spot we have.”
