Familiar names make up field for 2 open D52 board seats
|By MICHELLE LAXER|
Ninety Six voters heading to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in the school district's board of trustees election will find a few familiar names as candidates.
Regina Berry, Paul Cobb, Sam Corley and Ronnie Peeler are all vying for the two open seats on the board. Residents can vote for two candidates.
Berry, a practice administrator for Physicians Care and one-time Ninety Six mayoral candidate, wants to be a voice that listens on the board. She described herself as a strong woman who isn't afraid to speak up.
"I don't back down from controversy, and I'm not easily persuaded to go in one direction because that's the way the group's going," she said.
She wants voters to know she's approachable, and that she'll research their concerns. Sometimes, what she learns and responds with might not please everyone, but she wants to do what benefits the majority.
"If you're truly listening, then you're not just listening to one person," Berry said. "You're trying to listen to a multitude and solicit input from a multitude, so that when you make your decision, you can base it on more than one person."
