Fleet frosh says team reaching higher than the sky

Roderick Perkins and Erskine College are a perfect match.
The freshman wing on the Flying Fleet basketball team is the its second-highest scorer and the highest-scoring freshman in Conference Carolinas. He pulls down 5.7 rebounds per game and leads Erskine with 23 blocked shots overall.
Off the court, Perkins is thriving, as well. He could not be happier with his college choice.
Fortunately for Erskine and himself, Perkins did not stick with his initial reaction to being recruited by the Fleet and assistant coach Drew Wallace.
"It started back when I was in high school (Campbell High School in Smyrna, Ga.)," Perkins said of Erskine's recruitment. "I was at a tournament in New York, and coach Drew reached out to me and told me a little bit about Erskine, and I didn't know anything about it.
"At the time, I figured I wasn't going to do it; I was going to choose another route."
Even Wallace figured Perkins was not bound for Erskine when he first got in touch with him. But when Perkins decided to go to prep school at Covenant Christian Academy in Marietta, Ga., Wallace figured he would keep up with Perkins.
