After a stellar golf career at Greenwood High School and Augusta State University, Emmett Turner spends his days totaling numbers. They don't add up in relation to par, though. These days, Turner - who will be inducted into the Greenwood Athletic Hall of Fame tonight - works as an accountant in Augusta after recently earning his masters degree from Auburn.
Crunching numbers and making sure a budget balances might be how Turner makes his living these days. But at Greenwood, he dominated on the fairways. He was named all-region five times and all-state three. And in 2000, he cruised to the Class AAAA state championship. "The golf course played tough, but it was just one of those weeks where I was playing really well," Turner said of his state championship. "I started the final round with a six-shot lead and winded up winning by 13." Also that season, he was the South Carolina Junior Golf Association's boys player of the year and 2001 South Carolina High School League's Mr. Golf.
