'Ripcord' opens at Abbeville Opera House July 12

Billed as ‘”The Golden Girls” meet “The Odd Couple”’ Abbeville Opera House’s next production for the this summer theater season is sure to bring on the laughs.

“Ripcord,” a comedy by Pulitzer prize-winning David Lindsay-Abaire, opens at 8 p.m. Friday at AOH.

It is about contrary roommates in a retirement home — Bristol Place Senior Living Facility.

This AOH production is directed by Michael Genevie, who describes “Ripcord” as “brilliantly funny and powerful.”In a press release about the show, Genevie said, “It’s a cross between ‘The Odd Couple’ and ‘The Golden Girls’ with a little ‘Grace and Frankie’ thrown in.”

The AOH production includes an ensemble cast, led by Lisa McConnell as Abby and MaryAnne Campbell as Marilyn. Tim Higginbotham plays Scotty, the orderly. Kaitlyn Crocker and Scott Sherard play Colleen and Derek, Marilyn’s grandchildren. Joseph Strickland plays Ben, Abby’s estranged son. Rounding out the cast are Brian Sorrow, Sydney Wells and Amber Swann.
