Registered nurse Kelly Popella of Ninety Six is the Greenwood Artist Guild artist for September at Howard’s on Main in Greenwood.
She has a solo show on view through the month and an opening reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available.
Popella developed an interest in painting during a paint-and-pour class taught by Mary Catherine McCartha at the Arts Center of Greenwood.
That in turn, led to Popella becoming a painting student of McCartha’s, finding time in her full-time nursing schedule, to take a painting class once a week.
Popella, a nurse at Self Regional Medical Center, said in a news release about the exhibit that she finds “painting to be very therapeutic” and she is “drawn to scenes of the landscape around Greenwood.”
The exhibit reflects a love of nature and conveys the calm Popella finds when applying paint to canvas. She is currently painting at the Skip Shelton studio at the Arts Center of Greenwood.
