Christmas is coming to downtown Newberry. Celebrate the start of the season with lights. The annual Main Street Lights event is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Nov. 22. From 5-6 p.m., the Southern Victorian Society will be in full period costume caroling at the tree.

The official tree-lighting ceremony of Main Street lights begins at 6:15 p.m., accompanied by the Boundary Street Elementary School and Newberry Academy choirs. This year Newberry’s mayor will light the tree with a special guest from WISTV. After the lighting, attendees can stroll downtown and listen to carolers, the Newberry College Madrigal Choir, perform familiar Christmas tunes. Play in the fluttering faux snow from snow machines in Memorial Park, see the lights and decorations along Main Street, in Astwood Park, at the tree, and in Memorial Park. Take a family photo at the tree, shop our local stores and dine out. At 7:30 p.m., take in a free Holiday Movie at the Ritz, “The Polar Express.”
