Members of the McCormick Garden Club attending the first meeting of the year were told to pat themselves on the back by outgoing President Teri Wiley as she announced that not only had the club won a state first place award for Christmas Beautification of a Historic Building for its Christmas Tour of the Dorn House in 2018, but had also received a first place award from The National Garden Clubs Inc. for Decoration of a Historic Building, the first national award ever for this small local club.
The club also received a first place award in Youth Horticulture for its guidance, support, and help with the First Steps garden in 2018.
As the club began a new year at this meeting with new officers, President Paula Palaima led the group in making plans for the coming year that will include a second Historic Dorn House Christmas Tour and bringing back the sale of live wreaths for Christmas decorating that the club has done in the past. The wreaths of either Fraser Fir or local live greens will be on sale at the Dorn House on the days of the Christmas Tour. Mark your calendars now to begin your holiday celebration with a “must see” tour of the Dorn House Dec. 6, 7, 13,or 14 and buy a live wreath with that wonderful fragrance that only fresh greens have.
