Billy Garrett, Greenwood trial lawyer, spoke to a large crowd of GOP attendees Aug. 12 at the Greenwood County Public Library Veterans Auditorium.

Garrett, a longtime resident of Greenwood County and graduate of Lander and USC School of Law, announced his candidacy for State Senator for District 10 against Democrat Floyd Nicholson.

Garrett told the group that years ago his ambition was to be a manager at Piggly Wiggly. Later when he saw the struggles so many people encountered, he wanted to be the people’s lawyer.

“Law enforcement and teachers need to be paid more,” Garrett said. “I believe that if you hear something or see something, do something! The Feds tell us what we need to do. If I become your State Senator, I don’t work for the government, I work for you!”

Garrett also said he’s strong on the Second Amendment and a strong advocate of due process.

The GOP crowd applauded Garrett for his frank and honest assessment of the problems in the state, including drug problems, education, and road problems that need to be repaired.
