Civitans prepare sleigh for parade

These elves have some definite ideas on how the Civitans should decorate Santa’s sleigh. From left are Gavin Floyd, 6, from Starr; Izzy Foster, 5, from Honea Path; Dellah Johnson, 8, from Honea Path; and Larry Young, Civitan and Santa’s helper, from Honea Path.

The Honea Path Civitan Club has caught the Christmas spirit and is making preparations for the Christmas Parade.

This year, the parade will begin at 11 a.m. Dec. 7. The starting point will be at the corner of Central Avenue and North Main in Honea Path. A rain date has been set for 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8.

“This is going to be a great parade and we want everyone to mark December 7 at 11 a.m. on their calendar,” said Mike Petersen, Civitan President. “We encourage all local churches, businesses, organizations and town departments to participate.”

Petersen said that for health and safety reasons, there will be a few changes this year. Throwing candy or other items from vehicles is strongly discouraged. Santa’s elves will be handing out candy along the parade route, and everyone else is encouraged to do the same.

Children under 18 in the parade must be accompanied by an adult, and all vehicle operators need to be licensed.

“We are asking parade entries to sign up in advance at https://form.jotform.com/92978295783177,” said Petersen. “This will also let us quickly contact folks in case of a change in weather.”

Strolling carolers are always welcome as well.
