Marler Anne Askew and Cecilia Jane McGinnis were awarded the Chad Withered Scholarship during the “Graduation Sunday” service held on May 19th at Main Street United Methodist Church. A fund held by the Greenwood County Community Foundation, the Chad Withered Scholarship is named after a former member of Main Street UMC who was very active in youth programs as well as other aspects of the church. Chad passed away from injuries sustained in a car wreck while he was still in high school, and the scholarship was established by family friends and church members to honor his memory. The scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who are a member of Main Street UMC, regularly participate in youth activities, and plan to further their education after high school.

Miss Askew recently graduated from Greenwood High School and plans to attend The University of South Carolina in the fall. A 2019 graduate of Greenwood Christian School, Miss McGinnis will attend Furman University.
