SALUDA — After a nearly two-month application and interview process, Saluda High School didn’t wind up reaching far to select its new head coach.
Principal Harvey Livingston confirmed Monday night the school named defensive coordinator Stewart  Young head coach.
“Coach Young is the perfect fit for our kids," Livingston said. "He has a youthful enthusiasm, a knowledge of the game and knows our kids."

Young replaces former coach Doug Painter, who left in December after six seasons. He has been an assistant at Saluda for nine seasons, and played collegiately as Presbyterian.
It’s that familiarity that Livingston said made the difference in Young’s candidacy.
