Emerald High School pitcher Sheldon Reed is looking forward to his 17th birthday on July 30.
He hopes to get to celebrate it with a pretty unique victory.
Reed is one of three Lakelands baseball players participating in this year’s Big League World Series, along with Emerald teammate and outfielder Matthew Mulkey, and Ninety Six pitcher Jacob Childress.

The event takes place July 23-30 in Easley, and features 11 teams of players aged 16-18 from around the nation and around the world.
The championship game July 30 will be televised on ESPN, giving Reed a special present to shoot for.
“It’ll be a cool experience to get to play against other people from all around, and see how they live and how they play baseball,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to hopefully winning the whole thing and getting to play on ESPN on my birthday,” he added. “That would be pretty cool.”
