NINETY SIX — Wednesday night's matchup between the Emerald and Ninety Six High School softball teams provided each with a break from the rigors of region play before returning for the home stretch Friday night.
For Emerald coach Mike Ward, it was a positive glance at the kind of play his team needs to claw its way back into the playoffs. For Ninety Six's Anarie Duckett, it was exactly the opposite.

Emerald pelted the Wildcats for 11 hits and benefited from seven Ninety Six errors to take a 15-8 road victory in a performance that left Ward brimming with confidence.
"I was glad to see our bats come alive," Ward said. "They've kind of been up and down all season, real spotty. They all put it together (Wednesday), and really got their timing on (Ninety Six starter Amber Belk).
"The bats were the big difference. They were sensational, and I was really proud of that."
