ANDERSON — Emerald High School wrestling coach Andy Wright said before the individual state wrestling tournament he thought his four state qualifiers would at least place, finishing in the top four in their weight classes.
Wright's four charges surpassed his expectations Saturday night and were just one part of a successful tournament for the Lakelands.

Emerald's Gage Cervenka and Abbeville's Ben Glace won state championships, while the other three Emerald wrestlers were runners-up. Ninety Six's Bradley Weaghington finished second, and brother Bailey Weaghington placed third. Teammates Jamie Ford, Skyler Rushton and Grayson McCall finished as state qualifiers, as did Greenwood's Steven Crowder, Ware Shoals' Seth Childress and Abbeville's Avery Thompson.
"I think we had a great day of wrestling," Wright said.
Cervenka won his third consecutive state championship at heavyweight, but his three teammates and fellow state qualifiers also wrestled for state titles.
