From worst to first.
The second-ranked Lander University baseball team, which finished the 2010 Peach Belt Conference schedule with six wins and the worst winning percentage, clinched the program’s first regular-season conference title Saturday night with a doubleheader sweep of Armstrong Atlantic. Coach Kermit Smith’s team beat the Pirates by scores of 8-7 and 10-4 at Dolny Stadium to finish the regular season at 43-6 overall and 24-6 in the conference.

The Bearcats celebrated with a dog pile on the field after left fielder Weston Lawing caught a fly ball for the final out of the night.
“Oh man, you can’t put this into words,” Smith said. “You really can’t. This is a special group of kids, our seniors, and they’ve led us to this. It’s been a humbling experience to be a part of this.”
One of those seniors is Erik Lunde, who hit two home runs and a double for four RBIs in Saturday’s second game.
