Abbeville High School‘s Deandre Hurley is working on his timing.
His speed, cadence.
When you balance running at full speed and leaping over hurdles ranging from 36-39 inches tall, it takes a tad bit of coordination.
And, the ability to finish strong.

In 2012, Hurley executed that combination better than any other Class A 400-meter intermediate hurdler, winning the final with a time of 56.69 seconds. He also was also third in the 110 high hurdles (15.54).
That was, of course, Class A.
Last season, Abbeville was competing in AA, and Hurley still had an impressive state track meet. However, he was second in the 110 (15.20) and 400 (57.55).
To say Hurley is motivated to reclaim a state title this weekend in Columbia would be an understatement.
