The Greenwood Christian 8-man football team is exactly where Hawks coach Gary Gillion wants it: still in control of its destiny.
So much so, a win Friday against Jefferson Davis Academy would clinch the program's first playoff appearance.
"The way I'm caculating, if we get a win, we're in," Gillion said. "If we lose Friday, there'd be a number of tie-breaker situations that are possible. We've talked about not putting ourselves in those situations."
Greenwood Christian certainly has momentum after earning what Gillion called a signature victory last week against Clarendon Hall. The Hawks, who lost 56-6 against Clarendon Hall last year, won this season's matchup 36-14.
"I think taking care of business Friday was really good for us," said Gillion, whose team is 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the region.
Gillion is trying, already, to get his players used to the playoff atmosphere.
"It was nice weather (Monday)," Gillion said. "A couple of guys were walking around talking about how cold it was. But we told them we wanted to practice into November. That's when the playoffs are; that's what you hope for."
