Before playing Silver Bluff last Friday night, the Abbeville High School football team was not getting much respect.


The Panthers were coming off a down season, finishing 4-8 a year removed from three consecutive trips to the state championship game, including two state titles. And with a depleted secondary and many questions lingering on offense, Abbeville lacked the usual respect that accompanied the Panthers.

Friday, Abbeville gained back some of that respect with a 21-0 shutout of Silver Bluff at Silver Bluff, the Class AA Division II runner-up last year.
